LAB-44 TASTERS

There are various monumental buildings on the Hembrug site, one of them is a formerly laboratory. This property has been given a unique appeal with the arrival of Lab-44; a multifunctional setting for ‘makers and eaters’. This monumental building accommodates the restaurant, a terrace and various food & drink related companies, such as a paplab, samballab and a micro brewery.

 

LAB SHOP

How nice is it to take what is being made in the various labs home? Just to try for yourself or take as a gift. In the storage room of Lab-44, in addition to 'homemade' beer of HOOP, Zaanse Sambal and rice pudding, there are also products available from local entrepreneurs such as Breugem beer, chocolate from De Euforij, preserved from COCO and peanut oil from the mill ‘t Jonge Schaap from Zaandam. The space lends itself to and is suitable for (small) workshops and meetings where, for example, we will experiment with beer and chocolate combinations in the future. Of course, you can also get a gift voucher for a tour & tasting in the brewery or dinner in our restaurant. The shop has the same opening hours as the restaurant.

BEER LAB

One of the labs has been set up as microbrewery. Here beers are brewed by the beer brand 'Hoop' from Zaandijk. You are welcome to come along for a tour with beer tasting. We will gladly explain everything about brewing beer and how we can also brew specialised batches. For example, special craft beer for a jubilee, wedding or for a special group of people. Perfect for makers and drinkers!


Zaanse Sambal

Zaanse Sambal, the only real sambal from the Zaan region, is made in Lab-44. Fons and Stef make their sambals in their compact production space: the Original (red sambal with mustard seed), Fennel laurel (from Jalapeño peppers), Cocoa sea salt (with cocoa nibs and coarse sea salt) and in the winter months Madame Pompoen (with peppers, pumpkin and quince).

These sambals are deliciously spicy and can be used as seasonings for everyday cuisine. In addition, new combinations and dishes are often invented and taste tested. Don’t hesitate to knock on the door and say hello when the guys are there creating. They love to tell their story and give you a glimpse into their lively kitchen. The House of Proud

Our building works hard to ensure that ProudDesign has a well-functioning workshop for the innovative development of food & drink. Under the House of Proud banner small, local projects will be set up, like what has been done for Hoop beer, Porcospino olive oil, KO-KO chocolate, Zaanse Sportbank and of course 'Treat Me Rice'!

Het concept van LAB-44

Lab-44 is gevestigd in een monumentaal pand op het Hembrugterrein. Dit gebied behoorde ooit toe aan een wapen- en munitiefabriek en was verboden terrein. Dit terrein wordt nu volledig opnieuw ingericht en geldt steeds meer als dé hotspot in de metropoolregio Amsterdam. Lab-44 biedt een restaurant met volop mogelijkheden voor vergaderingen en andere bijeenkomsten. Het zonnige terras is vanaf vroeg in het voorjaar een heerlijke plek om te genieten van het zonnetje. De keukenbrigade heeft een toegankelijke brasseriekaart samengesteld, aangevuld met bijzondere pizza’s uit de Valoriani oven.

Lab-44 doet haar naam eer aan. Je vindt hier ‘makers’, zoals de mannen van Zaanse Sambal, de brouwers van de bieren van Hoop en Breugem en een keuken waar nieuwe foodconcepten ontwikkeld worden. Ook biedt Lab-44 pizza-workshops naar concept van Gabriele Bonci. Dit alles, inclusief gratis parkeren, maakt van Lab-44 een unieke plek.
